Can You Get Pregnant During Your Period?

Can You Get Pregnant During Your Period?

It’s Possible!

Have you ever wondered if you can get pregnant even if you’re on your period? It might seem like a no-brainer that the answer is “no”, but the truth is a little more complicated.

Let’s break it down so it’s easy to understand.

Understanding Your Cycle

First, let’s talk about what a menstrual cycle is. It’s the time from the first day of your period to the first day of your next period. Most women have a cycle that lasts about 28 days, but it can be shorter or longer. Ovulation, when an egg is released from the ovary, usually happens in the middle of the cycle, around day 14 if you have a 28-day cycle.

Irregular Ovulation

Some of us don’t have a clockwork cycle. We might ovulate earlier or later than the middle of the cycle, and it can be hard to predict. If a woman ovulates soon after her period ends, and she’s had sex during her period, there’s a chance she could get pregnant.

When It’s Not Really a Period

Sometimes women have bleeding that’s not actually a period. It could be ovulation bleeding or other types of bleeding. If a woman has sex during this time, thinking it’s safe because she believes it’s her period, she could actually be fertile, which means she could get pregnant.

Long Periods and Short Cycles

If a woman has a period that lasts a long time, like a week, and her whole cycle is short, she could be getting close to ovulation by the time her period ends. That means if she has sex at the end of her period, there’s a chance for pregnancy.
